Introduction

Alternating Current-An alternating current (i) is one whose magnitude changes continuously with time between zero and a maximum value and whose direction reverses periodically.

i = i0 sinwt

Alternating Voltage-An alternating Voltage (V) is one whose magnitude changes continuously with time between zero and a maximum value and whose direction reverses periodically.

E= E0 sinwt           or

V =V 0 sinwt

where i and V = Instantaneous values of current and voltage,

          i0 and V0 = Peak values of current and voltage

In India we get A.C at a frequency of 50Hz

In some countries A.C. of 60 Hz is also produced.

Now let us further study in detail.
