Take place in presence of Fe or Fecl3 or anhydrous Alcl3 as catalyst .

Nitration

It is carried out by heating wiyh concentrated HNo3 in presence of H2SO4.

Sulphonation

Carried out in the presence of heating with Conc. H2SO4.

Alkylation and acylation

It  is carried by treating haloarene with alkyl chloride or acyl chloride in the presence of a catalyst like anhydrous aluminium chloride. For example

3.Chloromethylation: It is carried out by  heating chlorobenzene with formaldehyde (solution) and HCl in presence of anhydrous ZnCl₂.
