Use of ethers:-

1. Diethyl ether is used as an excellent solvent in laboratory
2. Water is immiscible with ether, is used as solvent for the extraction of various organic compounds.
3. Diethyl ether provides an inert medium for various reactions Wurtz reaction or preparation of Grignard reagent.
4. The mixture of alcohol and ether is used as a substitute of petrol under the trade name natalite.
5. It is used as a refrigerant as on evaporation it produces cooling.
6. It is used in the production of smokeless powders. It is also used in perfumery.
