Single cell protein

Single cell protein:

It is a protein derived from the culture of single-celled organisms, especially used as a food supplement. Microbes like Spirullina, Methylophilus and Methylotrophus can be grown on industrial scale in large bioreactors as a source of protein.

Their advantages:

  • They are easy to grow in any source.
  • Provide food rich in proteins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats and vitamins.
  • Minimize environmental pollution.
  • Due to high biomass production, they are produced at large scale in bioreactors.
