Plant breeding for improved food quality:

This is done due to following:

  • Lack of food with high demand and high nutritional value.
  • Essential micronutrients are absent. 
  • Due to costly fruits and vegetables, people are not able to buy them and suffer from hunger.

Bio-fortification:

  • It is a method in which crops are made with high levels of vitamins, minerals, proteins and healthier fats to improve public health.
  • It is done to improve the quality and contents of protein, oil, vitamins, micronutrients and minerals in respective crops.
