This is done due to following:
- Lack of food with high demand and high nutritional value.
- Essential micronutrients are absent.
- Due to costly fruits and vegetables, people are not able to buy them and suffer from hunger.
Bio-fortification:
- It is a method in which crops are made with high levels of vitamins, minerals, proteins and healthier fats to improve public health.
- It is done to improve the quality and contents of protein, oil, vitamins, micronutrients and minerals in respective crops.
