Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer Technology

Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer Technology (MOET):

It is a program which is done to increase the herd size for animals like, cattle, ship, buffalo, etc. Here, high milk yielding female and lean meat yielding male are selected for breeding.

How it takes place:

  • Cow is injected a FSH-like hormone for follicular maturation and to induce super ovulation.
  • Here, cow produces 6-8 eggs instead of normal 1 egg.
  • Now, it is mated with selected bull or artificially injected with semen from selected bull.
  •  When these eggs get fertilized and attain 8-32 celled stage, then these are removed from that cow by surgical methods and get transferred to surrogate mothers.
  •  A surrogate mother is a woman who agrees to carry someone else's baby. She becomes pregnant using some form of assisted reproductive technology and she is not genetic mother.
  •  Genetic mother is now ready for such a new procedure.
