Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs):

Diseases or infections which are transmitted through sexual intercourse are collectively called sexually transmitted diseases (STD) or venereal diseases (VD) or reproductive tract infections (RTI).

For example: AIDs, Gonorrhoea, syphilis, genital herpes, chlamydiasis,  genital warts, trichomoniasis and  hepatitis-B, etc.

Transmission of STDs:

a) By sharing of injection needles, surgical instruments, etc with infected persons.

b) By transfusion of blood from infected person.

c) Also from an infected mother to the foetus.

Symptoms:

Itching, fluid discharge, pain and swelling in genital region. It also arises many more problems like: Pelvic inflammatory diseases, abortions, still births, pregnancies, infertility, and even genital cancer too.

Prevention of STDs:

a) Avoid sex with unknown partners/multiple partners.
b) Always use condoms during coitus.
c) In case of doubt, one should go to a qualified doctor for early detection and get complete treatment if diagnosed with disease.
