Population Explosion:

Rapid increase in population size is called population explosion.

Reason for increasing population:

1) Low mortality (death) rates:

Infant mortality rate and Maternal mortality rate

2) High birth rates.

3) High number of reproductively active individuals.

Steps taken by government to overcome the situation:

1) A fix marriageable age (18 for girls and 21 for boys).

2) Introduction of family planning programmes.

3) Initiation of a public programme (HUM DO HMARE DO).

4) Awareness programmes to educate society for a small and happy family.
