Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP):

Intentional or voluntary termination of pregnancy before full term is called medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) or induced abortion. MTPs are considered relatively safe during the first trimester (upto 12 weeks of pregnancy). Second trimester abortions are much more riskier to both mother and foetus.

Uses of MTP:

1) Failure of contraceptive during coitus and rape cases.

2) When continued pregnancy is risky for mother as well developing foetus.

3) When developing foetus is mentally abnormal and fully diseased or during miscarriage cases, MTP is done to save mother’s life.

Miss-use of MTP:

Now-a-days MTPs are done to kill female child before birth, that comes under female foeticide.

It is the biggest drawback of this useful technique. But many government aids are also formed to minimize its use for such a dreadful purpose.
