Uses of bio diversity
Uses of Biodiversity:-
1. As source of food and improved variety:-
Several 1000 species of plant are edible but only less than 20 species of plant is cultivated which provides 85% of cycobal food.
2. Biodiversity is source of cereal, Pulses, vegetable, fruit, milk, egg etc.
3. Improved variety include fibre, paper, etc.
- Genetically modified food also based on plant and animal product:-
(2) As source of Drug and Medicine:-
Several 25,000 thousand species of plant are used in pharmacy.
Now a days (20 species of plant is cultivated which provide 25% of global medicine.
About 95% of prescribed medicine in ayurveda, is based on plant waste source.
(3) Asthetic and cultural Benefit:-
Aesthetic reward include ecotourism, bird watching. In majority of Indian, many plant like tulsi, Banana, many animal and Bird are used in worship e.g.:- king cobra, snake do not have milk digesting protein.
In Mumbai – Owl is worshipped.
(4)Biodiversity play vital role is many ecosystem services such as photosynthesis release of O2, disposal of Co2,
(5) Ecological Balance:-Biodiversity help in maintenance of ecological balances between producer, consumer or decomposers.
