Levels of biodiversity

Level of Bio-Diversity:-

  • Genetic Biodiversity:-

Genetic variation increases with increases in environmental variability.

Species having more genetic diversity have more chance to adopt in environment and respond to natural selection.

India has more than 50,000 different strain of rice and more than 1,000 variety of mango.

  • Species Biodiversity:-

It refers to variation in species of a region

  • Species richness:-It is total no. of species per unit area.
  1. Western ghat have more species diversity of amphibia as compared to eastern  ghats.
  • Community – ecosystem diversity:-

(1) α– Diversity (Within community)

(2) 𝛃– Diversity:- (Between two community)

(3) γDiversity:- (over the large geographical area or land scape).

Smallest level of Biodiversity ⟹ Genetic Biodiversity

Largest unit of Biodiversity ⟹Community or γ ecosystem.
