Cause for loss of biodiversity
Main cause for loss of Biodiversity:-
4 main causes responsible
Causes responsible for extinction of species are collectively called evil quartret.
1. Loss of fragmentation of Habitat:-
Main cause of extinction of species, initially 14% of total bio mass was covered by tropical rain forest. And it provide 20% global O2so called Lungs of earth. But now a days tropical rain forest cover no more than 61%.
Large amount of forest are removed from tropical forest due to cultivation of soyabean and conversion of grassland into cattle beef.
2. over exploitation (over use):
Human depend on Biodiversity for food and shelter, when need change into greed than it cause extinction of species.
e.g.:- Many species like Dodo, stellar’s Cow, passenger pigeon become extinct due to their excessive use.
(3) Introduction of Alein species:-
Or Introduction of exotic species
This phenomenon result in extinction of many nature species.
e.g.:- Introduction of Eicchornia, parthenium grass (carrot grass), lantana, etc cause extinction of many native grass species.
Illegal introduction of African cat for Aqua purpose in water body causes extinction of many nature species of cat fish.
- Due to introduction of layerer and Biolers wild desi chicken become extinct.
- Due to introduction of Jersey cattle, many Desi cattle become extinct.
- Introduction of Nile perch in pond of Queen Victoria leads to extinction of 200 species of
CHICHILD FISH.
(4) CO-EXTINCTION:-
Extinction of one species causes extinction of other species. e.g.:- If remora get extinct than shark too get extinct.
Many organism make commensalism, mutualism and parasitic relationship with organism of other species. In this case extinction of host Species causes extinction of parasitic organism e.g.:- Orchid and Moth tree.
