Physical properties of benzene

Benzene is a colorless liquid (melting point 5.5^°C, boiling point 80.4^°C) with a characteristic smell of petrol.

It is immiscible with water, but dissolves in organic solvents.

It is lighter than water: density 0.87 g cm^-3

Its vapors are toxic.
