Style

Style:-

  1. The style is the slender projection of the ovary which is meant for raising the stigma on which pollen grains are deposited during pollination.
  2. Style may be hollow or solid and is of three types based on its origin from ovary.
  3. The terminal style is formed by protruding the ovary into a long or short style.
  4. Style is absent in Buttercup and Lotus etc. Style is branched also in some flowers.
  5. The stigma is the terminal end of the style and receives the pollen grains. It may be knob like or slightly pointed even some what elongated.
  6. The stigma may be lobed, funnel-shaped, branched or feathery. The surface of stigma may be hairy, sticky, smooth or rough.
  7. A sterile pistil devoid of mature ovule is called as pistillode.
