Functions of liver

Functions of liver:

(1) Helps in digestion of fats by emulsification of fats droplets.

(2) Bile pigments secreted by its bile duct impart yellow colour to feaces and pale yellow to urine.

(5) Regulates blood sugar level. It separates excess sugar from blood & stores in cells as glycogen. For further use –

(6) Converts excess glucose & amino acids into fats called lipogenesis.

(7) It detoxify the poisonous substances.

(8) Helps in blood clotling.

(9) Produces RBCs and process is called erythropoiesis.

(10) Dead cells, bacteria & foreign particles get engulfed & digested by special star-shaped liver cells called macro phages or kupffer cells.
