Events of cell cycle
Events of cell cycle:
Cell cycle merely comprises a series of three phases;
1) G0-phase or Quiescent phase or Gap-0: A resting phase where the cell has left the cycle and has stopped dividing. It is also called senescent phase.
2) Inter-phase: It is long non-dividing phase. Further divided into three sub-phases;
a) G1-phase (gap-1) → Synthesis of RNA, proteins, purines, pyrimidines and ribose sugar, etc takes place in this phase. This phase is a check point to ensure that everything is ready for DNA synthesis.
b) Synthetic phase → DNA replication occurs during this phase.
c) G2-phase (gap-2) → Here, the cell will continue to grow. This phase is a check point to ensures that everything is ready to enter the M phase.
3) M-phase: It is also called mitotic phase. It is short dividing phase. Here, cell growth stops and only growth and arrangement of chromosome occurs. It is also a checkpoint to ensure that cell is ready to complete cell division. Further divided into;
a) Prophase
b) Metaphase
c) Anaphase
d) Telophase
