Control and regulation of respiration

Control and regulation of respiration:

Nervous Control

Chemical Control

Respiratory centre controls the rate of breathing. And it is activated by increase in CO2 and H+ ions in blood.

  1. Dorsal respiratory group of neurons: Lies in medulla oblongata of brain and causes inspiration.
  2. Ventral group of neurons: lies in medulla oblongata of brain. Causes inspiration and expiration both.
  3. Pheumotaxic centre: lies in pons varolii, decreases the time for inspiration.

Receptors present with carotid artery and aortic arch (present at sides of aorta) also recognize changes in Co2 and H+ ions and send signals for rhythm centre actions.

Role of O2 is in significant in both controls.
